The Combeima’s river basin is strategically important for the territorial development of Ibague’s municipality. 97 % of the raw water that goes through the distribution system of the Ibagueraña water and sewer company named IBAL SA E.S.P. comes from its water supplies. Unfortunately, the increase of agricultural activities has diminished the quality and accessibility of its hydric resources. Consequently, the Combeima’s basin currently faces high levels of water stress in the region. Calculating the water volume consumed and contaminated by the economic sectors that produce goods or services in the region made the study of the water footprints of the Combeima’s river basin. The initiative serves as an academic tool to inspire new proposals and multisectoral strategies that improve the sustainability of the hydric resources from the studied basin. The theory foundation of the water footprints and the methodologies to accomplish the objectives were primary consulted on the following: CTA (2013a) guide and IICA (2017a) and other documents such as Builes (2013), CTA (2013b) e IICA (2017b). This study started with the quantification of the Water Footprint (WF), characterized by the individual analysis of: 1. The blue water footprint or the hydric resources from the surface; used for anotropic porposes 2. The green water footprint or appropriation of water stored in the soil for agricultural activities and 3. The gray water footprint or volume of fresh water, that assimilate the polluting load discharged to a receiving body. The water footprints were determined based on the information generated by official sources and fieldwork, as well as environmental, social and economic analysis and even aspects such as temporality, geographical location, stages and processes of the sectors 13 The main results indicate that the blue water footprint is in an extreme situation in terms of competition for surface water and the gray footprint indicates that the level of water pollution exceeds the capacity of water assimilation. Then, the terrarium sector contributtes more than 75% of the resources captured and about 99% of the resource discharged in the combeima basin. Keywords: water footprints (WF), sustainability analysis and Combeima´s river basin
