Abstract This study uses the butterflies as indicators of type and quality habitat, mainly of the meadows/ scrubs, forest edge and forest in the meadows Magdalena sanitary filling of the municipality of Girardot (Cundinamarca-Colombia). A total of 239 individuals belonging to 6 families, 16 subfamilies, 46 genus and 59 species were collected, which represent 2% of the species recorded for Colombia (3019 spp.) and 18% of the species registered for the Eastern mountain range (328 spp.) in the Colombian Andes. The greater richness and diversity were registered in the meadows/scrub habitat and the analyses of similarity demonstrate a low affinity among habitats (< 50%). Nevertheless, forest edge and the forest showed the greater affinity (29%). In according to the results of richness and diversity and, the quantitative and qualitative matrix of impacts, currently the sanitary filling reveals a moderate vulnerability of the environment, therefore we suggest that the importance of the impact on the community of diurnal butterflies do not represent an adverse effect.
