La presente investigación es una descripción de la economía regional del alto magdalena neogranadino, entre 1768 a 1778, basado en el libro de cuentas particulares del comerciante Francisco Martínez y registros notariales hallados en el Archivo Histórico de Ibagué (AHÍ). La información se manejó usando sistemas de información geográfica, indicadores financieros y análisis documental. Entre las conclusiones se encontró un mercado interno regional, con disponibilidad de medios de pago, circulación de mercancías, suficiente crédito de tipo particular y redes de intercambio ampliadas que superaban el ámbito provincial.

The dissertation seeks to describe the regional economy of the Upper Magdalena Valley in New Granada from 1768 to 1778. The data is obtained from the logbook of the merchant Francisco Martínez and notary records kept in the Historical Archive of Ibagué (AHI). The information was addressed by using geographic information systems (GIS), financial indexes and documentary analysis. The research shows that there was an important regional internal market in which the supply of means of payment, the circulation of goods, the mechanics of credit and exchange networks exceeded the provincial level.
