El propósito del presente trabajo de investigación fue conocer y analizar el Índice de Masa Corporal, el Índice de Cintura Cadera y la condición Física de la Población infanto-juvenil escolar del municipio de la Ciudad de Ibagué. El presente estudio fue de tipo descriptivo, transversal, (Burgos Rodríguez, 1998).La población estuvo conformada por todos los habitantes del Municipio de Ibagué en Edad Escolar (Primara, Secundaria y Media – Instituciones Oficiales y No Oficiales), calculada en 98.228 escolares (46.989 en básica primaria, 47.8% y 51.239 en secundaria y media, 52.2%), según los datos de la Secretaria de Educación de Ibagué - Alcaldía de Ibagué (Alcaldía Ibagué, 2011).Este trabajo fue realizado en tres etapas: en la primera etapa de preparación, donde se efectuó el análisis de la población, selección de las instituciones, distribución de la muestra y capacitación del personal encargado de aplicar los cuestionarios y la toma de medidas. En la segunda etapa se hizo la aplicación de los instrumentos en las diferentes instituciones que fueron seleccionadas previamente y la recolección y tabulación de datos para su posterior análisis. En la tercera etapa se llevó a cabo el análisis y discusión de resultados, se elaboran las conclusiones y se establecen las recomendaciones. Se encuestaron 1408 estudiantes y se obtuvieron los siguientes resultados: el 59% de la población infanto-juvenil de la Ciudad de Ibagué de la sección Primaria, se encuentran en un IMC de Bajo Peso lo que nos lleva a inferir que se presentan elevados índices de desnutrición. El 70% de la población infanto-juvenil de la Ciudad de Ibagué sección Secundaria se encuentra con un IMC de Peso Normal entendiéndose esto como una normalización de los pesos al llegar a esta sección. El 48% de la población en general evidencia problemas de Obesidad, Sobre peso y Bajo Peso. Tan solo el 22,51% de la población tiene un nivel de Actividad Física, Muy Activo seguido del 17,33% que se encuentra en la categoría de Regularmente Activo y esto demuestra que los Hábitos de realizar actividad física están lejos de liderar estas investigaciones. Se encontró que el Índice de Masa Corporal, no se encuentra relacionado con el género y que el 55,4% de la población infanto-juvenil escolar femenina presentan alto grado de contraer enfermedades como la diabetes mellitus, enfermedades coronarias y tensión arterial. Se concluyó que existe una elevada prevalencia de Hábitos de Vida inadecuados y riesgosos en la Población Infanto-juvenil Escolar del Municipio de Ibagué evaluada con bajo peso, sobrepeso y sedentarismo, factores de riesgo modificables comportamentales; por lo que se recomienda realizar acciones preventivas basadas en el principio de formación integral (transversalidad curricular) lideradas desde la cátedra de Educación Física, es decir, ESTRATEGIAS DE INTERVENCIÓN EN EDUCACIÓN PARA LA SALUD DESDE LA EDUCACIÓN FÍSICA. The purpose of this research was to understand and analyze the Body Mass Index, Waist Hip Index and Physical condition of the child and adolescent School Population from Ibague. This study was descriptive, transversal, (BurgosRodriguez,1998). The population consisted of all inhabitants of the City of Ibagué School Age(Elementary, Secondary and Media –Official and Unofficial Institutions), estimated at 98.228schools (46.989 in elementary school, 47.8% and51.239inmiddle and high school, 52.2% ), according to data from the Ministry of Education of Ibagué-mayor of Ibague(Ibague Hall, 2011).This work was completed on three stages: in the first stage of preparation, was made the analysis of the population, selection of institutions, sample distribution and training of enforcement personnel about questionnaires and the other stuff. In the second stage was the application of the instruments in the different institutions that were previously selected and the collection and tabulation of data for further analysis. In the third step was carried out the analysis and discussion of results, conclusions and recommendations. 1408 students were surveyed and the following results were obtained: 59% of the child School populations of the city of Ibague Elementary section are in Underweight BMI which leads us to infer that they have a high incidence of malnutrition. The 70% of the adolescent school population of the city of Ibague Secondary section meets a Normal Weight BMI understood this as a normalization of the weights to get to this section. 48% of the general population evidence problems of Obesity, Overweight and Underweight. Only the 22.51% of the population has a level of physical activity, Very Active followed by 17.33% which is in the category of assets regularly and this shows that physical activity habits are far from leading the different researches. We found that body mass index, is not related to gender and that 55.4% of the child population among girls at high degree of contracting diseases such as diabetes mellitus, heart disease and blood pressure. It was concluded that there is a high prevalence of inadequate Life Habits and risky in Child and Adolescent school Population of Ibague evaluated underweight, overweight and sedentary, modifiable behavioral risk factors, so it is recommended based preventive actions principle of comprehensive education (curriculum mainstreaming) led from the chair of Physical Education, it means INTERVENTION STRATEGIES IN HEALTH EDUCATION FROM PHYSICAL EDUCATION.
