The present research takes as an intention to identify the social representations that the students and teachers of the fifth grade possess, in mathematics area that belongs to the institution named: Institución Educativa Técnica Nuestra Señora De Fátima Sede Rondón, located in the municipality of Espinal-Tolima. For the development of this research there has taken as a referential frame the concept of “social representations” that there has Mr. Moscovici (1979) who proposed the concept of social representations in 1961, in his book and Mr. Jodelet (1986), the notion of social representation places us in the intersection point between psychological and social, Abric (2001), Rodrigo, Rodríguez and Marrero (1993), from the theory of social representation, the mathematical conception is determined by the philosopher, psychologist and professor of mathematics Raymond Duval (2004) in the interdisciplinary team of Didactics of the Mathematics and Cognitive Sciences, developing numerous researches and scientific publications on his experiences in the classrooms. In relation to the stages of intellectual development for stages, it speaks about the theory of Jean Piaget y Vygotsky (1972), mentioning the mental development of the newborn to the adult, going on to learning for discovery with Bruner and significant learning with David Ausubel, without stopping mentioning Gardner with the multiple intelligence that are part of the conception of our current students. The proposed objectives is based on the qualitative method on its conceptualization of the social thing like a built reality that is ruled by social laws, this means, that is to say, by a cultural normativity whose properties are very difficult to the natural laws Mooney and Singer (1988). This is characterized in the application of non-participant observation techniques, surveys and focus groups with the annotation instrument, applied questionnaire and semi-structured interview. Finally for the results, a comparative analysis of the different information was done delivered by the students with the purpose that they were capturing in a finished way each of the conceptions in front of the different questions posed, afterward the surveys were applied to the teachers, and the research process is reached with the execution of a focal group, in which the teachers were discussing about a few questions designed to study in depth the emergent categories of the first applied instrument of the first phase of compilation of that information. The last part of the research work contains the conclusions and contributions of this research followed by limitations of the study and open lines of research. Keywords: social representations, conception of mathematic.
