This work is a hermeneutic investigation in which a comparison between the curricular theory of John Dewey and Lawrence Stenhouse is done. There are more convergent than divergent issues between these two authors in reference to the planning and development of curriculum. The categories that are included as central topics in this comparison are: education, curriculum, educative experience, language and curriculum, democracy and curriculum, curricular objectives, curricular research and curricular problems. One of the most important conclusions of this work is that Stenhouse, to a great point, is a continuator of the curricular proposals of Dewey. If there are some differences of theoretical perspective between them, this is due to the focus that Dewey made on primary school in contrast with Stenhouse’s secondary school focus. This difference of age between the primary and secondary population is what creates some divergent issues between these two authors. However, there is enough convergence in aspects such as the pursue of a democratic education, the importance of research in curricular development, the role of language as a transmitting tool of culture, the kinds of curricular problems and the vision of curriculum as a process with continuous revision. Keywords: Education, Curriculum, Educative experience, Democracy, Curricular research.
