This project was born thanks to the oral transmission of stories of a violent past in Colombia. These relates have been engraved as a part of the cultural legacy of our society. In some occasions these stories have been transformed into fiction, shaped by the interpretations of individuals through time. Based on these stories, ambiguous images emerged and transited in the memory of the people who lived in their own flesh those violent events. Also, in the memory of those that listened to the stories. Tanatomaniaco is a project that uses a tri-dimensional approach, based on wood carving, as an expressive language to translate the history of the Violence in Colombia bout in the first half of the XIX century. The raw information for Tanatomaniaco is rooted in the study of written records, stories, and interviews. The "Corte de corbata" (throat's cut), is one of the images that are part of the stories of mutilation and alterations to the corpse practiced at during the Violence; its symbolic meaning represented the forces and interest of the social and political currents in Colombia of that time. With Tanatomaniaco, I pursue a decomposition of the Corte de Corbata to demystify and enrich the collective memory surrounding the stories of the Violence with the hope that such events do not repeat in the future.
