ABSTRACT This essay, which reaches to the seventies, is a historical, chronological and anecdotal story of the facts and the experiments that preceded to the discovery of DNA molecule, and, the later works that have to do with the synthesis, structure and function of the genes. We pay homage to the authors of one that, in the author’s opinion, it is the most important scientific discovery in the XX century. To make the synthesis we have taken as support, among other, the texts of the own protagonists of the history, especially, the original articles, some of them compiled in special books, and many anecdotic data. The commented bibliography is a recount of the main discoveries that were carried out during the fifties, sixties and seventies.
